Jacob Landau was an American artist whose work address the Great Depression, World War II and the impact of technology and politics on individuals and their surroundings. 1ft 4 1/2 inches in width and and 1ft 8 1/2 in height.
Jacob Landau (1917-2001) was born in Philadelphia and lived his adult life in Roosevelt, NJ. A favorite theme of his was the human condition, specifically through the lens of man's inhumanity to man, having grown up during the Depression and the Holocaust. After graduating from Pennsylvania Museum School of Art & Design (now University of the Arts) in 1938, Landau worked as an illustrator, painter, printmaker, and teacher.
Living in Roosevelt, Landau immersed himself in the local artistic scene while teaching at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. His work has been featured at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), New York, and the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D.C., as well as internationally. In addition, Landau received numerous awards and grants, including the National Endowment for the Arts and Ford Foundation, as well as Tamarind and Guggenheim fellowships.
