The Oceanliner: Speed, Style, Symbol
Filled with b&w photos, this guide explores ocean liner public spaces, design, and symbols. Among the notable photos are the launching of the first MAURETANIA, the notorious and short-lived eagle on the bow of the IMPERATOR, the moose-head clad Smoking Room on the WASHINGTON, the grand staircase on the PARIS, the main stairway on the ILE DE FRANCE, and the Observation Lounge on the QUEEN MARY. In the center is a four page fold-out cut-away of the NORMANDIE. The accompanying text lays out a historical narrative of ship design that has stood the test of time. But a few mistake show that icons of today that are familiar to even the most casual collector zipped right past the proof reader.
Vintage/Antique Items:
Please note that most vintage/antique items may have minor wear due to their age and being loved, which we believe only adds to the charm and patina of these pieces. Because the items sold in our shop are vintage or antique, there are often small condition issues, which we do our best to accurately disclose and photograph in the listings.
While we try very hard to describe our items accurately, it is possible that the eye of a true collector might see something that we do not. If you are particular about your vintage items, please ask questions before you buy. We really want you to be happy with your item and have confidence in your purchase.
