Dr. Barnardo (Thomas John Barnardo) was an Irish philanthropist and was the founder and director of Barnardo’s charity, which started as a home for poor children.

He had helped nearly 100,000 children live better lives. The ground floor included a lavatory, a large swimming bath, a library, play room, dining hall and a commodious kitchen. The home also included a school and a chapel.

This is an illustration of the swimming bath, titled “The Offices and the Swimming Bath” dated from 1898, artist unknown. It was an illustration for a magazine.

This rare and unique piece of art has appears to be pen and watercolor with some notes in pencil by the artist. The top reads " No Destitute Child Ever Refused Admission" and at the base
"The Offices and the swimming bath" as well as some other notes.
